This large and intricate property presented us with an excellent opportunity to showcase our specialist timber restoration skills.
The client approached us knowing that the property’s original timber window frames needed extensive restoration. Following a series of detailed site visits and surveys, we developed a carefully considered approach to restore the windows while retaining as much of the original fabric and character of the house as possible.
The project involved a range of highly skilled traditional restoration techniques, including complex scarf joints and the use of carefully selected, air-dried oak to repair and replace areas of deteriorated timber. Natural materials, including oakum, were used to fill gaps created by the natural shrinkage of the original timber, helping to maintain both the integrity and authenticity of the existing windows.
Alongside the timber restoration, we carried out a comprehensive restoration of the property’s Crittall windows, bringing the metal frames back to life while preserving their distinctive character.
The project was completed with the installation of a new lead roof to the main canopy, complementing the extensive restoration work throughout the property.
Through a combination of traditional craftsmanship, sympathetic materials and meticulous attention to detail, we were able to restore these important architectural features and help return the house to its full glory.
