Following a detailed survey and structural assessment, we were appointed to undertake a complex structural restoration project on a unique French-designed, stone-built property in the seaside town of Broadstairs, Kent.
The property featured an extensive wraparound balcony and veranda, which had suffered significant structural deterioration over many years of exposure to the coastal environment. Working closely with the architects and structural engineers, we developed and carried out a programme of works designed to restore the integrity of the building while retaining its original character.
Structural Works
A new steel frame was carefully designed and installed to provide additional support to the existing balcony. This required extensive preparation and coordination to ensure the new structure integrated correctly with the existing building and provided a long-term solution to the structural issues identified during the survey.
Alongside the structural works, we undertook a complete refurbishment of the balcony, including new waterproofing and a finished tiled floor that wraps around two elevations of the property. The veranda was also refurbished as part of the wider programme of works.
Extensive Restoration
Following the successful completion of the structural works, we were invited by the clients to continue with further masonry repairs and redecoration throughout the property. This allowed us to address the wider effects of years of exposure and deterioration, ensuring the repairs were completed to a consistent and high standard.
The project required careful attention to detail throughout, combining structural expertise with traditional masonry and finishing skills while respecting the character of this distinctive property.
A Long-Term Solution
By working closely with the clients, architects and structural engineers, we were able to deliver a comprehensive restoration rather than simply addressing the immediate structural concerns.
The completed works have provided the clients with peace of mind, knowing that the property has been carefully restored, structurally supported and properly protected against the elements. Most importantly, the building can continue to stand strong and perform as intended for many years to come.
