Another prestigious project Town Carpentry has been involved in is the refurbishment of the Maison Dieu in Dover, a Grade I listed building of significant historical importance.
Working directly alongside the architect and conservation team, we undertook a comprehensive carpentry refurbishment package as part of a major heritage-funded restoration project. The works included specialist timber repairs, bespoke timber design and refurbishment across the building, including doors, windows, timber frames and roof structures.
A particularly unique aspect of the project was the conservation timber repair of the iconic Zeebrugge Bell, requiring a high level of specialist knowledge, precision and attention to detail.
Working within a historic and highly sensitive environment, the project required careful planning, coordination and collaboration with the wider conservation team. Our specialist carpentry skills and experience in conservation timber repair enabled us to deliver the high-quality workmanship required while preserving and complementing the character of this important historic building.
The project was complex and prolonged, requiring a dedicated team and meticulous attention to detail throughout. The completed works form an important part of the wider refurbishment and conservation of the Maison Dieu, helping to protect this remarkable piece of Dover’s heritage for future generations.
